FIRST DAY - TAKING YOUR KITTEN HOME
PROVIDE a small room or bathroom for your new PERSIAN kitten . . . a “Safe Room”.
Do not let your new Persian of any age loose in the entire home (any size home or apartment) until at least 1 week. A new pet will feel disoriented, confused with too much introduced to him/her until he/she has bonded with you. Take this time to bond, teach your kitten to trust too !
INTRODUCING YOUR KITTEN TO A NEW HOME AND NEW AREAS
> In about a few days or sooner (I recommend little more time!) your kitten can be introduced to other areas of the home, one room at a time with your supervision, especially if you have children of any age or other pets
> If you introduce too quickly to new rooms your Persian may choose to hide under or behind furniture
It just makes sense to think what they are thinking as everything is new !
Pets go by sight, sound and hearing
> So when introducing to a new room, all looks and smells different and you blasting the radio or TV is not a good way to build trust, bonding and having your new "Persian" feel secure at his new home
> Keep the original safe room for easy access. Clean and sterilize with Clorox wipes. Water and with a little white vinegar is a good cleaner too ! Get a spray bottle add 95% water and add vinegar. Keep rubber gloves and paper towels handy for quick clean ups. When needed use the Clorox wipes again to keep clean
> Pet carriers always clean inside and out and pad too (machine wash with a pinch of bleach) after using your pet carrier outside the home or returning from Vet, etc.
> Never let an animal hide ! You will teach them to be shy ! Teach them to face any fears !
Hold them, hug them and kiss them ! This is what we do so do not undo our hard work. Do not let them in a room that they can hide under or behind furniture. You must put your new Persian in area where there is no place to hide!
> If you have a dominating pet or a pet you know is jealous, carefully introduce them together with supervision
> It is important to hold your kitten all the time when young
If you do not hold when young, he or she will not want to be held when older
Hold your persian when young in many directions such as upside down, sitting on your lap, over your shoulder, etc., so no matter how you old him, he will trust you!
> YOUR PERSIAN STOPPED EATING?
Other breeders might say it is normal for them to not eat or drink the first day ! This may happen, however, do not let this happen. Encourage your Persian to eat and drink by making them feel comfortable ! If they feel safe, loved, secure and not too many people and pets making them uncomfortable the first day, this can be avoided. Be there for them, monitor them, show them love. Get a water fountain so they experience water movement to encourage them to drink.
> YOUR PERSIAN ADJUSTING TO YOUR HOME: Now as I say this, I am amazed how quickly our Persians adjust. The TinyPersians suggestions should be practiced. Why would one take any new pet home, set it in the home and think they will not hide when introduced to a new, strange surroundings? A home is large, a new environment, smells different and they need to check it all out. So back to the safe room first and let your new Persian adapt to his new home and bonding with you is a must!.
Follow these valuable proven methods . . .
PERSIAN CAT RECOMMENDATIONS BY A REPUTABLE BREEDER:
We are proud to be rated as a top Persian cat breeder by our customers and we are often asked our recommendations for caring for a new Persian cat or kitten. Here are a few things we would like to share.
HOW TO HAVE YOUR PERSIAN CAT OR KITTEN ADAPT PROPERLY IN THEIR NEW HOME
BREEZE LITTER
We recommend the Tidy Cats Breeze Litter System and not to change the litter brand. So there is something familiar for your new Persian. This system has a pee pad that you can monitor how much your kitten is drinking. This is extremely important the older your Persian gets!
FOOD
Read below how to feed your Persian adult or kitten.
For a quick outline on feeding read : HOW TO FEED YOUR PERSIAN CAT
We recommend Royal Canin Kitten dry and canned diets for ALL Persian KITTENS and adult CATS ! Unfortunately, there are several cat food and supplement manufacturers that produce inferior products adding fillers in feed, too high of fat, adding corn, grains, fish oils and other fillers that may cause health issues for your cat, kitten down the road and sometimes very quickly. Trying to save on food and supplements, will only get you to spending more on Vet care
Male cats 24 months and older should be fed an urinary diet - We recommend Royal Canin SO a prescription diet, however, there are many Urinary brands you can shop from retailers.
Stay away from fish and fish oil products that will make your cat a fussy eater!
You do not want that!
FEEDING PERSIAN KITTENS:
Top kitten food should be fed to your beloved Persian kitten- Feed canned and dry.
1. CANNED CAT FOOD: Feed Royal Canin Kitten canned food
> Royal Canin Kitten canned (white - pink can) offered in 3 oz can and 5.8 oz sizes
2. DRY CAT FOOD: TinyPersians recommends Royal Canin Kitten Dry as a free choice feed.

CAT FOOD TO AVOID:
We recommend NOT feeding GRAIN FREE dry or canned cat foods. Research this and decide what is best for you. ER Vets and Federal License Vets have notified cat owners of the potential relation to GRAIN FREE CAT FOOD and urinary problems with cats
Caution with treats A high quality cat treat would be cranberry urinary treats, 100% freeze dried Chicken, or Organic healthy treats, I recommend less to none. Do not feed too many cat treats. Avoid cat food with preservatives, fillers and fish products - fish oils. Once your cat is exposed to fish oil they might become a fussy eater. All these are our recommendations, however, consult your Vet, research and decide what you think is best for your new "furry" friend !
FEEDING YOUNG KITTENS
Kitten formulated foods and supplements are specifically formulated for their delegate developing needs as internally they keep developing after birth. Another reason is acquire your new Persian from a reputable breeder that monitors every kittens development and progress from the moment of birth. We currently recommend Royal Canin Kitten Can and Dry Food and NuVet Vitamins ! Do not feed Royal Canin Mother / Baby cat can food as your kitten may have loose stools. There are exceptions to this rule as every kitten has individual needs, however, generally from much trial and error and spending lots wasted purchases, we have found our kittens do much better on Royal Canin Kitten wet can and dry food is recommended - read carefully how to feed a kitten 4 months and younger - How to feed your Persian!

CAT TREATS TO CONSIDER
Choosing a cat treat depends on the individual needs of the Persian. These are examples:
1. Dental Treats
2. Urinary Treats
3. Freeze Dried 100% Chicken - Caution review with your Vet on too high of protein and possible health issues. Same with too low of protein depending on cat breed, cat age, individual needs
There are foods that are promoting Urinary Health for example, consult your Vet to decide what is best for your new Persian kitten or cat
TEMPERATURE
Do not let your kitten get to hot or too cold
80 degrees or more might not be a temperature you want the room to be
BE PATIENT
Have patience, each Persian kitten or cat is an individual, however, most Persians’ personalities are typically the same. Cats personalities are formed in their early weeks and months of development up to about 2 years old. Persians are adults at 24 months – 2 years old, so do not think your 5 month or 12 month Persian is an adult ! They are babies ! As a breeder I have found the very moment the kitten is born is time for human imprinting, interaction, socialization and building trust, however, without interfering with mom bonding with babies. I call all my Persians of all ages “Kittens” ! Just what I do ! I think of them all as precious babies and they are treated this way from the moment born until they depart ! Even my breeder boys and girls are babies to me !
EYES
Persian cats and kitten’s eyes, need to be looked at daily and if needed, a quick careful cleaning, then do that !
1. Always be very careful cleaning eyes
2. View how to care for Persian eyes at TinyPersians !
3. Your kitten’s eyes might water more with arriving at their new home. Why?
Few reasons . . .
> Exposed to new environments with different chemicals or cleaning products.
Best to use all natural cleaning products or use what TinyPersian uses; > Clorox wipes and water and vinegar
> Avoid wearing perfumes
> Even your hair products, deodorant, make-up scents could be a bit irritating - but to worry very seldom are the kittens bother by these products - I have found herbal products are the ones to avoid if having an issue.
> Keep home free of odors and dust
> Airline chemicals used for disinfecting public areas
